Which Names Would You Drop?

Recommended Posts

So, assuming i've read the rules of the list correctly, of the 40 names currently still alive on the list, only 25 of them can be rolled onto next year.

so who would be your 15 if you had to choose? the ones who you would leave off next years list?

I just came on the website right now for

the first time today and this is the first thread I visited. I was about to correct you that 41 people are left, but decided not too. I opened the list in a new tab just so it could help me decide, since I didn't remember everyone on it, and bam! Turns out Cole's dead.

Anyways, here are my 15:

Herman Wouk

Maureen O'Hara

Richard Adams

Liz Smith

Chuck Berry

Ken Kercheval

Jake the Snake

Vera Lynn

Eddie Large

Bill Maynard

Fidel Castro

Henry Kissinger

Denis Norden

Robert Mugabe

Hosni Mubarak

Here`s 20 I think should be on the list until they die whether it be this year next year or 2035:

1)Zsa Zsa Gabor

2)Billy Graham

3)Joao Havelange

4)Olivia de Havilland

5)Prince Philip

6)George Bush senior

7)Bhumibol Aduladej

8)Helmut Kohl

9)Martin Crowe

10)Josst van der Westhuizen

11)Al Molinaro

12)Peter Sallis

13)Vera Lynn

14)Denis Healey

15)Fidel Castro

16)Kirk Douglas

17)Helmut Schmidt

18)Herman Wouk

19)Nancy Reagan

20)Jake LaMotta

These 20 in my view are either so old or so ill or have been such a fixture on the list over the years that missing any of them would be very embarrassing.

They'll probably keep (if they survive)

  20. Joost
  21. Peter Sallis
  22. Denisnorden

  24. Vera Lynn
  25. Nancy Reagan

Names from previous years who have a decent shot at returning

  1. Ian Brady
  2. Charles Aznavour
  3. James Randi
  4. Stan Lee
  5. Stephen Hawking
  6. Lord Carrington
  7. Nicholas Parsons
  8. Jerry Lewis

  12. Fats Domino

And newbies (either guesses or placeholders for Deathlist type picks...)

  1. Jimmy Hill -
  2. Geoffrey Bayldon -
  3. John Hurt -
  4. Howard Marks
  5. Comical Ali -
  6. Jim Prior
  7. Joanne Woodward -
  8. Joni Mitchell
  9. Tony Booth -
  10. Jim Bowen
  11. John Noakes

The working of which makes me assume, that, should they still be breathing on January 1st, the following people will miss out: Perez de Cuellar, Kercheval, Harper Lee, Dole, Doris Day, Kissinger, Michelmore, Mubarak, Liz Smith, Mugabe, Chuck Berry, Richard Adams, Jake, Eddie Large and Bill Maynard.

But, my OCD need to create lists aside, its far too early for the question, surely? After all, TS Eliot might have claimed April to be the cruelest month, but Deathlisters know Winter is...

Finding this very difficult. There were only nine names who I looked at and said I really think these people will still be here in 17 months time but I have compiled a 15.

  1. Jake the Snake Roberts
  2. Henry Kissinger
  3. Harper Lee
  4. Doris Day
  5. Chuck Berry
  6. Eddie Large
  7. Hosni Mubarak
  8. Jake LaMotta
  9. Ken Kerchavel
  10. Vera Lynn
  11. Bob Dole
  12. Valerie Harper (if she survives the year)
  13. Al Molinaro
  14. Liz Smith
  15. Bill Maynard

I still think it is too early to do this with any certainty.

Come back in December.

Thing is, the old folk at the top who keep appearing on the list are getting quite old. Thirteen of them will be 96 at the youngest in 2015. Reminds one of dominoes ever so slightly - they're all going to topple fairly quickly after each other in the end.

Rather than Jimmy Hill being on the list, I'd nominate either Jimmy Greaves or Ian St. John or perhaps both.

Normally try to shy away from spelling lames, guilty of plenty myself. As they say, it's not big, it's not clever and it impresses absolutely nobody.

But what? Covered in Branston Pickle and compromised perhaps? Hardly surprising, you definitely would be if anyone saw you.

I assume it's "released on compassionate grounds" but hard to say for sure :S.

Far be it from me to talk about correct process, but you do seem to have lost the thread here if you'll pardon the proverbial. The ask was which 15 names on the current list would you drop. The place for adding new names is the possibilities for 2016 thread. If i can find them it can't be hard (as the actress said to the Bishop).

Since odds are we'll get a few more hits this year it feels too early to make these types of lists, but I reckon there's a core of 19 names, if they all see the year out, the DL has to keep for next year, and indeed until their eventual deaths

(5+ appearances - can't risk another Patrick Moore happening)
1. Gabor
2. Graham
3. De Havilland
4. Healey
5. Schmidt
6. Castro
7. Douglas
8. Molinaro
9. LaMotta
10. Lynn

(extreme old age)
11. Havelange
12. Wouk

(too iconic to drop - despite not being the frailest names the prospect of missing out on them is too embarrassing for the DL)
13. Bush
14. Philip

(names known to be very ill - hesitant to put Harper/Phillips/Joost here for now as they seem stable enough currently)
15. Clive James
16. Crowe
17. Adulyadej
18. Kohl
19. Sallis

Which gives 6 more spots for other names to return. I'd say definitely drop Kercheval and Jake the Snake even if by some miracle the list reached 25 hits, and wouldn't be in a rush to make room for Harper Lee/Doris Day/Kissinger/Berry either. But how many names from the above 19 go in the next five months could decide the returnee status of the Perez de Cuellars of the list, or summat.

In a bid to amass points by tempting fate, I'd be tempted to drop Zsa Zsa (who is my joker) as she is looking increasingly immortal. :wheelchair:

I got sucked into the Stewart hype and regret it. She definitely will not be on a non-theme team next year short of a recurrence headline. Bad pick by me and many others.
